This new body of work continues and expands upon my longstanding exploration of assemblage, tactility, and materiality, marking both an evolution and a departure. These Hydrocal reliefs are cast from older, richly layered 2D works, embedding a sense of history and transformation into the pieces. The fragmentary nature of the forms draws a direct line to art historical precedents, particularly the Egyptian carved reliefs displayed in museums, where decoration and storytelling intertwine seamlessly. Much like those ancient artifacts, my work navigates the fine line between surface ornamentation and embedded narrative, positioning fragments as vessels of both beauty and information. In a contemporary context, these works question how visual language shifts when removed from its original context, inviting viewers to engage with them as both abstract compositions and carriers of layered meaning.
